Arlington Airport, Washington, 98223, August 25, 2007 –
Maxwell Propulsion
Systems, Inc. is the manufacturer of four cylinder firewall forward engine packages
based on the Subaru EJ25. Installed in 787MX for extensive flight testing, their
normally aspirated 165 hp package had its first flight June 26, 2008, approximately
1 hour after passing the FAA Airworthiness Inspection. It made its show-circuit
debut at the Arlington Fly-In, July 8, 2008. During its first 100 hours it flew 11500
nm, the equivalent of half way around the world including attendance at AirVenture
2008.
On its round trip to AirVenture 2008, at full gross weight (2350 pounds), the cruise
speed was 122 knots @ 4250 rpm; using 87 octane MOGAS, fuel consumption
averaged 6.7 gph.
The MX1 – 165 hp firewall forward installation includes the EJ25 STI Turbo short
block, normally aspirated EJ25 heads, cowling, mounting system, MX1 PSRU, fluids,
and the MPS CAP 220 inflight adjustable propeller and spinner. The entire package
weighs 411 pounds.
To the extent possible, all MPS engines use new, off-the-shelf components coupled
with brand new stock Subaru EJ25 engine components. In addition, the current
production process requires that the brand new Subaru EJ25 STI turbo short block
be dismantled, components balanced to within 0.10 gm. and the engine
blueprinted. Balancing the engine improves on Subaru’s already broadly
acknowledged quality and longevity, in terms of performance, efficiency, cost of
ownership, and engine reliability.
Beyond the Sportsman/GlaStar installation, MPS also offers a complete FWF
package for the RV 6, 7 and 9. MPS technical staff will work with customers
interested in creating a custom Subaru installation.
The MX1 engine package is in full production and available for shipment within 30
days following receipt of an order. Delivery of the CAP 220 in-flight adjustable
propeller is 6-8 weeks. MPS is now accepting $500 refundable deposits on its MX2 –
195 hp Turbo and MX3 240 hp Turbo packages, with deliveries expected to begin
Fall, 2008. The 195 hp turbo installation is scheduled for introduction in 787MX
during the 2008 Copperstate Airshow
